It seems so poignant that the countries of the world are all sitting round the table today negotiating agreements that will save the future of humanity. 103 years ago saw the end of the First World War when, in a railway carriage in a forest in Compiegne, representatives from the different countries signed the treaty to bring peace.
From the end of the Second World War, we saw the formation of the United Nations. Today at COP26, organised by the UN, we see nations join together to find solutions to a different sort of threat; one that affects everyone around the world. Time is running out and scientists are spelling out the consequences of inaction. Let us hope and pray that the talks today will bring serious commitments for change that will bring peace and justice right across our planet and that these are not empty words to be forgotten, but are put swiftly into action. We can and must build a better world as we remember those who sacrificed everything to give us that opportunity.
