Sapling Hunt Awareness Week Challenge
Find the Saplings. Grow a Forest. Strengthen Communities.
How It Works
The Sapling Hunt is a simple, playful way to explore our website while supporting vital reforestation work in Kenya.
Look for the six hidden sapling icons scattered across our website (like the ones above).
Click each one when you find it, they’ll quietly keep track of your progress.
When you’ve found all six, you’ll unlock a box to receive your certificate of planting.
We’ll sign you up to get occasional uplifting, behind-the-scenes stories about the trees you’re helping to put in the ground, the communities nurturing them, and the impact you’re making.
You can unsubscribe at any time, of course. No pressure, just hope, growth and good news.
- Then on Sunday 22nd March, (the last day of Trees Are The Key Awareness Week) we’ll draw one lucky UK based person to win a fantastic box of vegan pasties, pies and rolls from our amazing partner Phat Pasty. (See the Terms and conditions)
As you explore our website in the Sapling Hunt, you’ll naturally discover more about the many ways Word Forest supports people and planet. Along the way you may pass pages that tell you about why we Plant Trees, learn how communities Empower Women, or even choose to Donate and help expand our work. Some visitors enjoy browsing through our Certificates and stories of impact, while others prefer to explore further through our Social Footer links or reach out to Contact Us. Wherever your journey takes you, every click helps reveal the bigger picture of how small actions can grow into lasting forests.
Why Planting Trees Matters
Planting trees is one of the most effective nature-based climate solutions available. When done responsibly, every tree contributes to a healthier, more stable planet.
Trees help to:
absorb and store carbon
cool the air and reduce extreme heat
restore wildlife habitats
protect soil and prevent erosion
improve local rainfall and water retention
provide food, medicine and materials
create shade and healthier living conditions
The benefits multiply when planting happens in the tropics, and when communities themselves lead the work.
Why Kenya Is a Powerful Place to Plant
Kenya is one of the most impactful regions on Earth for reforestation. Thanks to the climate, species we plant can grow quickly, growing up to ten times as quickly as trees in the UK.
Meanwhile, many Kenyan communities are living with the direct effects of climate change: droughts, rising temperatures, crop failures and food insecurity.
Planting trees here doesn’t just absorb carbon, it strengthens lives.
Trees in Kenya:
regenerate soil so families can grow food
provide long-term income through sustainable timber, fruits and seeds
protect homes, schools and farms from extreme weather
create cooler, safer learning environments for children
restore damaged ecosystems and encourage biodiversity
The growth is remarkable, and so is the impact.
Planting Trees With Communities, Not For Them
Word Forest supports community-led forestry. This means local people choose species, run nurseries, plant the trees, monitor growth, and benefit from the results.
Your Sapling Hunt participation supports:
🌿 Local livelihoods
Planters, nursery teams and environmental stewards gain secure income and skills.
🌿 Women’s empowerment
Groups such as the Mothers of the Forest lead planting, permaculture work and training, strengthening financial independence and community leadership.
🌿 Better environments for children
Trees planted around schools create shaded, cooler spaces that make learning safer and more comfortable.
🌿 Strong community networks
Group planting, training sessions and shared projects build connection, wellbeing and resilience.
🌿 Long-term environmental health
Thriving forests support biodiversity, stabilise weather patterns and create opportunities for generations to come.
When you take part in the Sapling Hunt, you join a hopeful movement rooted in dignity, sustainability and community strength.
Your Journey Begins
Enjoy exploring the site, have fun finding the saplings, and thank you for choosing to help grow a greener, fairer world.
