About Word Forest
Word Forest is an international reforestation charity tackling climate change by planting trees, building schools, and empowering communities in Kenya. Since 2017, we’ve helped hundreds of farmers, improving food security, education, and resilience for families in one of the most climate-affected areas of the world.
We’re a small, passionate UK-based team with a big global impact, and we believe young voices should help shape our future.
The Opportunity
We’re looking for a Young Trustee to join our Board and bring new ideas, energy, and insight to our work. You don’t need previous board experience becuase we’ll provide a full induction, mentoring, and ongoing support.
This is a voluntary position requiring around 2–4 hours per month, mostly online. Meetings are friendly, purposeful, and flexible around your studies or work.
What You’ll Do
- Join our Board of Trustees and help guide our strategy and priorities
- Contribute ideas on how we can engage new audiences and strengthen our impact
- Offer your perspective as a younger voice helping shape decisions for people and planet
- Support our mission by getting involved in areas that interest you; from communications or community engagement to governance, sustainability, or digital storytelling
- Take part in occasional awareness-raising or fundraising activities alongside the wider board
What We’re Looking For
We’d love to hear from someone who is:
- Enthusiastic, curious, and proactive
- Passionate about environmental and social change
- Collaborative and open-minded, with ideas to share
- Interested in learning how charities work behind the scenes
Desirable (but not essential):
- Some understanding or interest in Legal, Finance, Governance, or International Development
- Awareness of ESG or sustainability in business or community settings
