Grow, Tree, Grow – A New Book For Children

It will be no surprise to anyone that the team here at Word Forest love trees. And books. After all, the charity grew not just from a wedding forest but from a literary competition – so we were delighted to be allowed a sneak preview of a new book for children that’s coming out on 5th July 2022.

Published by Graffeg, an independent publisher based in Wales, it’s called Grow, Tree, Grow and is a marvellous collaboration between poet Dom Conlon and illustrator Anastasia Izlesou. The lyrical verses lead all the way through the life of an oak, from tiny acorn breaking through the soil through great tree that provides a home for all manner of creatures and on to its return to the earth from which it grew. The sumptuous illustrations are full of detail, with lots of creatures to spot and talk about. It’s perfect for reading aloud together and there are also some facts about trees at the back.

The book is aimed primarily at 4-8 year olds, but I defy any adult not to fall in love with it too. It’s beautiful, informative and utterly charming.

If you wish to order a copy, you can do so here.

Graffeg have very kindly offered to donate some books to Word Forest; they will be heading out to Kenya to grace the shelves of some of our classrooms. Books are not easy to come by in the area in which we work, so these will be truly valued and appreciated.

They have also offered the opportunity for 2 lucky people to win a copy of Grow, Tree, Grow. To be in with a chance, answer these three questions and submit your entry by 20th July 2022. Winners will be selected randomly from the correct entries. No correspondence will be entered into.

Good luck. And thank you, Graffeg, for your generosity and support!
